Starting Point

Jen Crow, Associate Minister

We offer a variety of small group opportunities for spiritual development here at First Unitarian - and this year we are excited to highlight the concept of Journey Groups - small groups of 8-10 members who covenant to meet together at least once a month for a year or more with the goal of more fully living into their spiritual lives. These groups take on a variety of forms - from our Soul Matters Group to our UU Writers Groups and Buddhism Groups to our Wellspring Groups and our brand new Starting Point Class. In our Journey Groups, we not only get to know one another better and care for each other - we also focus our attention on re-connecting with our inner voice, opening ourselves to the sacred, and serving needs greater than our own. We believe that spiritual development happens best within the context of supportive and challenging small groups, and our Journey Groups offer church members and friends an opportunity to engage with one another on a deeper level. While enrichment, education, and social groups play critical roles in the life of our congregation, we believe that if folks are serious about their spiritual growth, they will find the most support for their journey in one of our Journey Groups.

Our new Starting Point classes are a great way to get started in a Journey Group. Starting Point offers all of us - whether we are new to the church or are seasoned members - an engaging opportunity to explore our own individual faith journeys, the journey of our particular church, and the journey we share together. These unique classes introduce us to the journey ahead as we learn move about our church and one another and listen deeply to the callings of our hearts and of the world. We hope you'll join us in exploring our Starting Point class, our Journey Groups, and all of our Small Groups.
