Worship Music Ensembles
Below is a list of the many opportunities to join in the music-making here at First Unitarian. If you have any questions and/or would like additional information on these opportunities, please contact me, Thom Snell, at FirstUMusic@gmail.com or call 271-9070 ext. 110.
I'm assembling a team of singers who have charisma and strong solo vocal skills to assist in song leading on Sunday mornings. If you are passionate about congregational song and are interested in this opportunity, please contact me.
9:30 Early Service Choir
This fun and supportive choir is geared toward those who have had little or no formal singing experience or music reading skills, but all are welcome. Spirituals, musical theatre, world music, and traditional anthems of easy to moderate difficulty will be used to teach singing skills and improve musical literacy. The Early Service Choir sings twice a month and rehearses every Tuesday night from 7 - 9pm.
11:15 Late Service Choir
This is "church choir" in the most traditional sense, featuring challenging anthems from all eras of music and in a variety of genres. This group also presents choral masterworks with orchestra twice a year in Sunday services. The Late Service Choir sings two to three times a month and rehearses every Wednesday night from 7 - 9 pm.
Our Saturday Service house band offers up an amplified blend of rock, pop and folk for those who enjoy a contemporary worship experience. The 5-piece core ensemble features occasional guests and is available for private events. Please contact Thom Snell (FirstUMusic@gmail.com) or Melissa Boyack (firstname.lastname@example.org) for more information or to share your ideas and feedback.
Special Pick-Up Ensembles
In addition to our regularly scheduled vocal groups, there will be special choral opportunities every month. Can't commit to an entire year of choir? How about joining us for just one Sunday? Each month will feature a unique experience, such as a Women's Choir, Men's Choir, Glee/A Capella group, Jazz Choir, Early Music ensemble, etc. Further information will be forthcoming.
This group of experienced ringers plays advanced hand bell repertoire, and requires music reading skills. The Bell Choir rehearses on the first, third, and fifth Wednesdays from 6 - 7pm and plays in Sunday services occasionally throughout the year.
Bell Boot Camp
Are you curious about what it takes to be in the bell choir? Spend an evening learning the basics of bell ringing and develop synchronicity with fellow beginners. Requires basic music reading skills. Date and time TBA.
If you are an instrumentalist and would like to perform a solo or chamber piece, please contact me.
