Meets quarterly at different times
This informal gathering over a dinner allows those with family in the military and military veterans to share stories and offer each other support. Especially with our country at war, we need each other. The group has no agenda but to be there for each other. We are especially thankful to be treated to dinner by members of the Peace Advocates Task Force! Contact Rev. Scott Tayler for more information or to join the email alert list.
Simplicity Parenting Study Group [2011-12]
Facilitator: Sue Morgan
244-7159; sjmjrgkmg@yahoo.com
Wednesdays, October 5 - November 16, 6:30 - 8pm
We all know what it is to feel overwhelmed by "too much." Too much to do, too many material possessions to take care of, too much anxiety provoking news on the TV or radio, and too much on our minds. In his book, Simplicity Parenting, author and family counselor Kim John Payne makes a persuasive argument that our children are also experiencing the pressures of our fast-paced, materialistic society, and that it is affecting their emotional, spiritual and even physical well-being. He lays out a road map for using "the extraordinary power of less to raise calmer, happier, and more secure kids" by scaling back, slowing down, and developing rhythms and routines that can ease tensions. In this seven week book study group we will discuss his ideas and solutions, talk about our own parental challenges and set our own goals for simplifying our environments, our family's schedules, and our children's lives. Come alone or with a partner. There is the possibility of on-site childcare if it would be helpful.
