Spiritual Development

Small Groups: Green Groups

Like our other groups, "Green Groups" seek to help people pursue spiritual development through social justice. With our emphasis this year on environmental action and sustainable living we're making a special effort to highlight groups specifically focused on educating and supporting members as they work to live more lightly on the earth.

Green Book Club
Facilitator: Karen Streech
Offered periodically in the evening throughout the year; meetings are advertised in the newsletter.
This group reads books that inspire hope as well as inform. Books are chosen to complement our quarterly Low CARBon Diet themes: home energy, eco-eating, transportation, consumption.

Locavore How-To Group: Going the Next Step
Facilitator: Sue Morgan
Meets every 3rd Sunday from 6:30-8pm
"Locavore" can sound a bit ominous, but it actually refers to one of the most gentle and positive movements of our time. Locavores simply try to eat a diet of food that is produced locally. You don't have to be a full-fledged loca-vore, just curious and interested in learning more.and doing stuff! In addition, to discussing a eco-eating topic each month, the group gets their hands dirty with an earth-friendly, but counter-cultural task like making cheese or baking bread. Serious discussion and fun in the kitchen-what more could you ask?! Childcare is always available. Contacting Sue ahead of time is helpful, but topics will be advertised ahead of time each month, so feel free to also just stop by when the topic interests you.

Sunday Morning Social Justice Forums
Facilitator varies
Detailed description here
Please Note: A majority of the forums will focus on "green issues" in support of our focus on environmentalism and our church-wide Low CARBon Diet effort. Forums will be linked to the various seasonal "focus themes": home energy, transportation, eco-eating, consumption. See the Earth-EASE section of our church website for information about all our green programs.
