Welcome to the Board Business and News Page. We share the documents at right (some in PDF) to help members better understand our evolving church structure. This is a time of exciting but challenging change at First Unitarian. It is important that all members understand the board's and other leadership's efforts to guide us through that change. As always the board welcomes questions, comments, concerns and hopes!

The Board of Trustees is currently implementing a new method of governance for the Church called "Policy Governance." You can review the recently adopted Governance Policies under Board Documents, here on the website. It includes a statement of global ends and sub-ends that is in essence our vision for the future of this church. In policy governance, the Board gives ministry leaders - both staff and volunteers - authority to develop the means to achieve the ends within the framework of policy and by-laws. The Board focuses on strategic direction, establishing policy, monitoring the operations of the church and fund development. The juncture between the Board and the ministries is the monitoring function. The ministry leaders are free to be innovative and creative in developing their work.

Minutes of meetings of the Board of Trustees are available on request. You may also add yourself to the Board and Church Governance News alert email list. Minutes, and our most current monthly and yearend financial reports, may be viewed on this website with a password available to members from our database administrator.
