Views From Winton Road

back to Building History page

Looking southeast at the building in winter. Unfortunately the brickwork on the original Kahn-designed sign suffered considerable weathering over the years; in addition, the name and street number were hard to see clearly when driving on busy Winton Road.

The brick sign was rebuilt in 2000, with modifications (including the capstone visible here) to make it more resistant to the Rochester winter. In this picture the church name and address had not yet been added to the stone insert.

Comparing these pictures one can also see changes to the window framework in the auditorium light towers; these resulted from the 1997 tower renovation project. We hope to have details on this significant structural work online sometime in the future.
