Justice For Low Wage Workers Task Force

Due to structural changes in our economy over the last 30 years workers in the bottom quintile (20%) have lost substantial buying power. We will join the national effort led by the Unitarian Universalist Service Committee (UUSC) and Let Justice Roll to achieve a $10 minimum wage in 2010. For "10 in 2010" we will educate the congregation, do letter writing with the congregation, and work with the local Let Justice Roll group to reach the larger community. We will augment Rev. Kaaren Anderson's effort with Clergy and Laity United for Economic Justice (CLUE) to institute fair community organizing standards. There are instances where contracts for events require service charges that are not passed on to the staff as the wording implies; we will investigate this and seek remedies if necessary.
