Hunger, Housing, and Homelessness Task Force

Through the wealthiest democratic nation of the world, the United States deals poorly with poverty. As a task force since 1988 at First Unitarian Church we will continue to keep the issues involved in poverty before the Congregation, and to offer both hands-on and political advocacy opportunities in order that together we may further social awareness and achieve justice concerning an often silent, ignored, and/or misunderstood population. For the 2009-10 year we will continue our support of the Southeast Ecumenical Ministry (SEM) Emergency Food Cupboard. We will be part of the church school "workshop" sessions to establish social justice awareness/action. We will collect winter and sprint clothing/toiletry items for St. Joseph's House of Hospitality, and support the St. Joe's Sunday dinner volunteers. We will also hold letter-writing tables on subjects such as justice for our farm worker/migrant labor force.
