In this house of the spirit we have gathered to walk together
As a company of imperfect people seeking a better way.
We come wounded in body and spirit,
Seeking the healing that we can do for one another.
It is not easy to wend our way
Through the thickets and brambles which beset us.
There are temptations to stray from the route we have planned,
There are pitfalls and steep hills and craggy rocks to traverse.
There are lesser paths to trod, and dangerous ways to walk.
We are survivors - the walking wounded seeking to be healed.
Sometimes we must stride the road alone,
In solitary courage we must decide how we must travel, and why.
Sometimes we are the guide and stay for those who follow.
We seek to mark the path, still unsure which way to go ourselves.
This we know. It is good to consider how we walk and with whom.
It is good to envision the highest path
Even as we stagger in the low places.
It is good to be with one another in this house of healing,
To give and receive words of encouragement and helping hands.
Walking this road is never easy; we need all the help we can get.
For we are survivors - the walking wounded,
Healing one another as we move on an uncertain journey.
Determined to continue the journey that knows no end.
