The Quickened Pulse Of Life

We can feel it now - the quickened pulse of life.
The trees are impatient to burst their buds into blossoms;
The grass is gathering itself for growth;
The flowers prepare for their quiet unfolding;
The birds sing songs of hope beyond survival;
The air is just a little softer now,
The sun is in the sky a little longer.
The earth tips and tilts ever so slightly
As it careens along on its accustomed path
Around the great fiery ball that gives light and heat and life.
And we, citizens of this intricate planetary pattern, what of us?
Can we feel the quickened pulse of life in our veins?
Do our hearts not beat more quickly as we anticipate the season?
Do our minds not stretch with the wonder of it all?
Do our spirits not soar with the birds arching across the blue sky?
Do our souls not come alive with new energy?
We know our problems are not solved;
Our work is not finished;
Our responsibilities loom large; our duties continue;
Our hurts will not be totally healed.
But is there not within us new resolve for our pilgrimage?
Is there not a new spirit in this changing of the seasons of earth?
Are there not fresh possibilities in our own seasons of the soul?
Can we not respond with joy to the quickened pulse of life?
