Gentle Words

May the words of my mouth and the meditations of my heart
be gentle and add to humanity's storehouse of love.
Words, words, words - our lives are full of words.
They come and go so easily.
Often they are out of our mouths or onto screen or paper
Before we even notice.
It is so easy to make words.
There are times when words explode from our mouths
And we wish we could call them back - but we cannot.
There are times when words pour out into the world
And we wish we had never said them.
We all do it - speak harsh words when gentleness is needed;
Shout when we should whisper;
Criticize when we could praise.
Words are more precious than gold;
More beautiful by far than rubies;
More important than we can imagine.
Let us care for the words we speak;
Let us measure our voices as if in prayer;
Let us send them into the world as our ambassadors of the spirit.
Let us speak them and hear them with care and concern.
Gentle words.
May the words of my mouth and the meditations of my heart
be gentle and add to humanity's storehouse of love. So may it be.
