Holy Water

In the holy quiet of this hour we contemplate holy water.
We have come together from far and wide
Like rivers coming home to the sea,
Seeking the water table of our common humanity.
We come as pilgrims seeking to find the way,
Set our sights upon it and walk the path as long as we have breath.
We have come from waterfalls of pure delight in being,
And stagnant swamps through which we must struggle;
We have come from flowing rivers cascading with power,
And meandering streams that seem to have lost their way.
Some among us have tasted water pure and sweet
While others have found it brackish and full of brine.
And so we have found our way here as water seeks the sea.
We seek the place of homecoming, of welcome, of refuge,
Of inspiration, of caring, of centeredness.
Here may our thirst be slaked;
Here may our hungers be fed;
Here may we find living waters to feed the soul.
Whatever our journey, whichever waters we have brought,
Let us rest assured that we have with us holy water -
Sanctified by the life we seek to live,
Blessed by our companions of the journey,
Dedicated by our ultimate faith in life and living.
We pour holy water here. Let us be both grateful and glad.
